Bangkok Day 1, 2 & 3
First day in Bangkok we decided our time would be better served sleeping. If you want to be technical, this is the “second day” in Bangkok.
We opted for the Temple tour since Bangkok has something like 400 Buddhist temples. After about 3 of them, we decided to take some time to visit the city on our own.
Bangkok, as I have heard, is a HUGE city. It’s incredibly tough to see all of it at once. It’s a really interesting mix between Buddhist spirituality and modern luxury. It’s a STARK contrast from Manila, a country struggliung to get out of debt.
On wednesday night, we headed over to Soi Cowboy, a street famous for a bar opened by an Ex GI during Vietnam. It’s now the place to go for fun if you’re an old man who wants to get laid by a young Thai lady. We had a GRAND time just people watching. While we were enjoying the sights, some guy with an elephant walked by.
No, no…The elephant wasn’t pink.
After people watching for quite some time, we went into Cowboys and heard some interesting live music. The bars close at 2am here, much like Baltimore, and we were then invited to an “after hours” club for some dancing. They bought us a bottle of the local favorite rice whiskey.
And that is all I can remember.
The next day we were late for our tour to the grand palace, ancient city and river cruise. I believe I was still loaded when I jumped onto the tour bus. The ancient ruins were fantastic, despite the searing heat. Finally, upon arriving home, I fell into my bed an awoke th enext morning at 5am.
Nice.
Today, we shop!
