Deep Thought
Maybe we should abolish money and return to a system of bartering for goods and services….
Maybe we should abolish money and return to a system of bartering for goods and services….
More evidence that people will get more of the same if people vote GOP. It seems that Gov. Palin has been properly indoctrinated into the Bush line of thinking. Whenever someone tries to investigate you or issues a subpoena, just ignore it. maybe it will just go away…..
Because THIS IS what we REALLY need to be talking about!
—Gretchen, from the Movie, “Mean Girls”
I’ll admit it, I love that movie. It cracked my shit up. There were some good points to it, so it acted like a double whammy. It reminded me of the silly aspect of High School social circles and how looks, friends and money governed popularity. When you’re all grown up, these things are funny when you look back at it. unfortunately, there are still women out there who act like that in the workplace. Sad, really. I have come across a few of them myself and promptly removed myself from the situation.I have no tolerance for women who continue the games played in high school. Secrets, backstabbing and favoritism just sucks. It’s petty and silly.
I am fortunate to know an Alaskan native. When he was asked about the new Gop Veep pick, he mentioned “small town gossip” as part of her mystery. Sort of a “rumor has it..” kind of take on things. He said she and her friends were running the town like the “Mean Girls”. I have no idea what life is like in a small town, but he said that shit happens all the time. I’ll take his word for it. When I read this over the weekend, I knew that he was right.
So when there was a vacancy at the top of the State Division of Agriculture, she appointed a high school classmate, Franci Havemeister, to the $95,000-a-year directorship. A former real estate agent, Ms. Havemeister cited her childhood love of cows as a qualification for running the roughly $2 million agency.
Ms. Havemeister was one of at least five schoolmates Ms. Palin hired, often at salaries far exceeding their private sector wages.
And, wait–if you need someone to keep quiet about something, well–she has that covered!
While Ms. Palin took office promising a more open government, her administration has battled to keep information secret. Her inner circle discussed the benefit of using private e-mail addresses. An assistant told her it appeared that such e-mail messages sent to a private address on a “personal device” like a BlackBerry “would be confidential and not subject to subpoena.”
Ms. Palin and aides use their private e-mail addresses for state business. A campaign spokesman said the governor copied e-mail messages to her state account “when there was significant state business.”
Does that sound familiar? It should. No wonder Rove (come on people, he is orchestrating this whole mess, you know it–you know it) thought she would be a great pick. Not only does she make the Wingnuts on the Christain right tremble with thoughts of the rapture, she satisfies their need for utter loyalty and secrecy.
If bloggers are saying bad things, she dispatches her sidekicks to call them Bad! and tell them to Stop! Stop it right now!
And four months ago, a Wasilla blogger, Sherry Whitstine, who chronicles the governor’s career with an astringent eye, answered her phone to hear an assistant to the governor on the line, she said.
“You should be ashamed!” Ivy Frye, the assistant, told her. “Stop blogging. Stop blogging right now!”
Oh good lord. Petty, childish acts. Just lovely. maybe washington will turn into a giant high school and the haters will find themselves in a giant burn book.
Have a seat, ladies, I’d like to talk with you.
A few days ago, I was listening to a radio show out of Baltimore, MD, a largely liberal city in a pretty liberal state. Although some folks aren’t as liberal as others, it’s fair to say that most people can identify with being middle of the road on a lot of issues. I was pretty distressed when I heard several callers identifying themselves as “Independents” or “Democratic Voters”, PTA and Soccer Moms telling Dan Rodricks that they like Gov. Sarah Palin because, well, she seems like one of them.
Lets discuss why. It’s easy to identify with someone who, a few short years ago had the Big Job as a “Hockey Mom” (I believe the Maryland equivalent would be “Soccer Mom” or “Lacrosse Mom”). Christ, I’m the working mother of a teen girl and it’s hard to keep up with all the Athletics, PTA events and school events that come with the territory. I commute to DC every day, attend school myself and carry all these extra responsibilities. It’s not a walk in the Park. I will say that I commend Gov. Palin for doing these things while maintaining a high profile, high stress job. That shit is hard. What I dislike about Gov. Palin and her Running mate Sen. McCain is their Policies. I dislike what they both stand for. If you are a middle of the road undecided voter and you find yourself saying “Wow, I like her!” because she can juggle the mom thing, I have some food for thought. I’m here to say that categorically–She IS NOT LIKE YOU.
If you value your Privacy, she probably doesn’t. She may continue to support the wiretapping of innocent americans in the name of the “war on terror”. (those who want to tell me that Obama voted on that, I’m well aware and wasn’t very happy about it. Wrote about it here, so STFU). Largely conjecture, but this is because she and the McCain campagin have failed to discuss on where they stand on this issue. For all intents and purposes, I’m pretty certain they fall in line with the Bush Administration.
If you want the wars in Iraq and Afganistan to end, well, i’m not sure if they will. YOu see, despite Gov. Palin’s son being deployed to Iraq, have we heard anything about bringing troops home? Again, I got nothing on her Policy regarding Iraq, because, I sincerely doubt that she has even discussed her actual stance on the issue.
If you want a solution to the current economic woes, I’m not certain if she is your gal. First, she would have to understand that Fannie and Freddie Mac weren’t a “Burden on Taxpayers” until they announced that the Government would be placing them under convservatorship this weekend. So, Technically, they’ve been a burden for about three days. McCain? forget it. He’s already said that he doesn’t quite understand economics. His handlers believe we’re all just a bunch of whiners anyway.
If your children attend a public school, then you can rest assured that funding will slowly cease as time goes on. Republicans are pretty open about wanting vouchers for private schools. The cost of Private school isn’t going to be totally covered by a voucher–you’re going to have to cover the cost of the spread. That spread is pretty large, giving the cost of private schools are anywhere from 10 to 20K. This doesn’t take into consideration the extra costs associated with private schools. They charge you for EVERYTHING. Take it from me, I know. I send my daughter to a private school. Once again, I’m not certain that this is the actual stance that McCain and his running mate hold because, well—they haven’t really discussed any issues.
If you believe that health care costs are out of control, then I’m certain that the McCain Campaign won’t help. They wish to keep health care in the hands of the insurance companies. A lot of people feel that way. Some see universal health care as “communism”. Most people, however, are struggling with the whole premium thing. Some have bills that are financially choking them. Some people work, but they don’t have access to insurance. It’s okay–They always have the emergency room.
So, anyhow, ladies, this probably won’t change your mind too much. If you believe that voting for someone based on the fact that she is just like you, then…by all means, go ahead. If you really believe that the direction of this country needs a different direction, then think about who you are voting for.
Everyone needs to Shut The Fuck Up about the “Lipstick on a pig” Comment because THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT REPUBLICANS WANT US TO DO—-They want us to continue to bitch bitch bitch about some silly remark TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT (Gov. Palin wasn’t even mentioned and the quote was used about McCain’s Policies).
Get back on track, people. Lets talk about what is really going on: A war, a failing Economy, continued oil dependence, inequality among the sexes, the races, and teh gheys, FISA, waging a smarter war against terrorists, eroded civil liberties, environmental disasters, New Orleans, Disaster Preparedness…shall I go on?
Geeze.
The guys who just made the decisions to bail out Fannie and Freddie Mac were appointed by the Bush administration.
There is no such thing as a free market. The only people who are held to the standards of the free market is the regular guy. The people who thought it would be a great idea to invest in “subpime” mortgages as a security just got every single portfolio bailed out. The guys who thought that driving up the real estate market to unsustainable levels so they could make a quick buck, just got bailed out. There is only a free market when they want to make money, not lose it.
Everyone else–well…you’re all to blame. You shouldn’t have bought a house. You shouldn’t have gotten sick. You shouldn’t have lost your job, you shouldn’t have put your medical expenses on your credit card. Yous houldn;t have used your credit card between your paychecks when you needed to eat. You shouldn;t have taken out such huge student loans. You shouldn’t have gotten married and ran up a huge debt because of it, you shouldn’t have….etc etc.
No one ever says, “You idiots shouldn’t have invested in risky mortgage securities…” Because, well…They got at least part of their money back.
We’re all holding the bill. They should have been left to fail. I thought that was the free market. Bad decisions = Failure.
Anyone–From now on–who calls me a communist is an idiot. for the last time, I have NEVER advocated bailing out any financial instiution. I have always said they should go under for shitty decisions.
Remember when the Wingnutty Pundits wanted to burn Jamie Spears at the stake for getting knocked up? Funny, now….isn’t it?
While I was away, a lot of stuff happened. First, the good stuff: Obama’s acceptance speech was awesome, hands down. It’s so refreshing to listen to a candidate that can actually form sentences. It’s just lovely.
Seems that NOLA was spared the worst of Gustav. Horray! I’ll eventually make it to NOLA, someday…
Now for the bad news.
Sarah…um…who? Apparently the no longer than a year and a half into a governorship of the great state of Alaska, McCain picks a lady whom has less experience than his counterpart, Obama, and is literally a nice wet lickery kiss to the ultra evangelical wingnuts. My fav is that McCain’s Campaign thinks that if he chooses a woman, My vagina sensor will go into overdrive, thus forcing me to abandon my morals and sincere beliefs and vote for Palin because, well..She *IS* a woman. I mean…See?!!??!?! Look at what some of the Right pundits believe of liberal women:
The calculation on the part of the McCain people is clear. Palin’s candidacy could draw some of the 18-million Hillary Clinton voters who are not happy she lost and who want to vote for a woman on a national ticket.
I think this pundit underestimates millions of Hillary Supporters. We don’t “vagina vote”. We vote because our views are inline with the canidate’s views. It’s funny because Palin is the EXACT OPPOSITE of most Clinton supporters own personal views.
McCain’s choice for Palin is a real look at the “It’s Okay If Your Republican” mindset. Hypocrasy is rampant! Let’s outline some of the best examples of IOKIYR:
Abstinence Only education isn’t really a failure if your rich and white! All families go through these things. It’s, well…Normal.
Being a working Mom is GREAT! See? Evangelical Conservatives can be feminists, TOO! Just ignore all the stuff that Dr. James Dobson , the Southern Baptists Convention and Bush preach.
Earmarks are BAD! Except when they’re good.
Ethics?! I know we all need to engage in ethical behavior. It’s not unethical if we are furthering our god given right to be rich, save face or help our friends and family.
When you choose life, only then is it a choice! Silly Liberals, didn’t you know that?
This whole think REEKS of Karl Fucking Rove.
George Orwell would be proud.
My pick: Gen. Wes Clark.
Some will say nawwww…..but….eh. lets see.
either way. Obama’s choice for Veep isn’t going to stop me from voting for him in Nov. I would like Clark to be on the ticket.
